Kick Up Your Heels at the All New ‘Girls in Spurs’ Ladies Night

While the Black Hills Stock Show & Rodeo® hosts plenty of events for the rough and tough guys, the ladies have not been neglected! This Tuesday, January 29th brings the first ever Girls in Spurs Ladies Night, an event that promises to deliver the “girl’s night” ever gal should enjoy.

Event MC and owner of the featured Molly & Gidget Boutique, Tara Trask encourages ladies of all types to attend. “The event was the vision of Amy Sutton-Muller,” says Trask. “She proposed it to me and I instantly thought it was a great idea. We wanted to have an event that was something different, and something the ladies of the Stock Show would really enjoy. It’s a break from all the rough and tough action of the rodeo.”

For those who attend, there will be no shortage of pampering. The event kicks off at 5:00pm and will include a beauty bar with complimentary mini spa and massage services. Also flowing will be plenty of custom cowgirl cocktails created exclusively for the event by Pendleton Whiskey. The grand finale is a much anticipated Style Show at 6:00pm, featuring fashion retailers including the Molly & Gidget Boutique, Ranchers Outlet, and Pink 629. Plus, each ticket holder is registered to win incredible retail prizes which will be drawn throughout the fashion style show.

Even for those ladies who may not follow rodeo closely, the event still offers a welcomed escape with girlfriends. “The styles are not 100% cowgirl specific,” says Trask. “There’s also a very girly side to it, so it will reach a vast majority of women.” Trask’s own brand will offer a diverse selection. “I have about seven looks that we will be featuring,” she says of the Molly & Gidget Boutique. “My boutique has two different personalities. Molly is more girly and sophisticated, while Gidget is more rock and roll, cowgirl style. We’ll show the two different personalities, and how you can tie it all together.”

Those who wish to attend can purchase tickets for $20 at the door, or receive free entry with the presentation of a Battle of the Borders Bronc Futurity ticket at the door. Battle of the Borders will begin at 7:30pm in the Barnett Arena, and is a great way to conclude a much needed girl’s night out.

“For those who enjoy being a girl, getting a spa treatment, and having a relaxing night with girlfriends, this is an ideal evening,” says Trask. So grab the gals and head to the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center for a night filled with beauty, fashion, cocktails and cowboys at the 36th annual Black Hills Stock Show & Rodeo®. The first ever Girls in Spurs Ladies Night will take place on Tuesday, January 29th from 5:00pm to 7:00pm in the Rodeo Zone!

Rodeo Spotlight: Black Hills Stock Show & Rodeo Brings Respected Competitors

Saddle up, because it’s that time of year again: We’re gearing up for the 2013 Black Hills Stock Show & Rodeo®, taking place January 25th through February 2nd.  The annual event will showcase some of the nation’s strongest competitors as they compete for standings and cash in Rapid City, South Dakota. The schedule includes premier events like the PRCA Xtreme Bulls Tour, PRCA rodeos and PRCA Timed Event Slack, plus non-PRCA events like the Ranch Rodeo, SD High School Extreme Rodeo, Pioneer Bank Professional Saddle Bronc Match, and the KBHB Bucking Horse & Bull Sale.  Since 1978, the Black Hills Stock Show & Rodeo® has been renowned as one of the country’s leading platforms for men and women to test their skill, training, and dedication to the sport of rodeo.

This year promises to once again bring respected competitors head to head, many of them representing the great state of South Dakota. During the 2013 Black Hills Stock Show & Rodeo®, you’ll want to keep an eye out for South Dakota natives like Cole Elshere and Nikki Steffes. From Faith, South Dakota, saddle bronc rider Elshere currently holds a 2012 world standings place of 13th. Since he joined the PRCA in 2010, Elshere has taken home nearly $97,000 and proven his place as a rising star. 2012 brought professional highlights that include wins at the Buffalo Bill Rodeo, the North Central Rodeo, and the Yellowstone River Round-Up.

Hailing from Vale, South Dakota, barrel racer Nikki Steffes has a lengthy list of achievements to her name and a promising future ahead. Taking the college rodeo scene by storm, Steffes was a 2x National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association All Around Cowgirl and a 2x Horse of the Year winner. She also took home the Champion Barrel Racer on Dash Ta Vanila award at the 2012 Ft. Worth Stock Show & Rodeo. Putting a career in dentistry on hold to pursue her rodeo ambitions, Steffes dreams of one day competing in the NFR.

Lisa Lockhart will also be competing for another barrel racing win at the Black Hills Stock Show & Rodeo®, with a respected career under her belt. In 2011 Lockhart placed in six out of 10 rounds at the Wrangler NFR, and upon entering had won $80,671. She currently comes into the 2012 NFR ranked ninth in the world, and relies on three gelding horses as her partners to the top.

Also in attendance will be heavyweights like Trevor Brazile, a Black Hills Stock Show & Rodeo® favorite. From Decatur, Texas, Brazile holds a 2012 world standings place of 1st. Competing in tie-down roping, steer roping, and team roping, Brazile is taking aim at extending his record for all-around titles to 10 by winning what would be his record seventh in a row. With career highlights that are too long to list, he is working on becoming the first cowboy in the sport’s history to earn multiple world championships in four categories: nine titles in the all-around, three in steer roping, three in tie-down roping, and one in team roping.

Since he joined the PRCA in 2008, tie-down roping champion Tuf Cooper has proven himself as a force to be reckoned with. Currently ranked 2nd in world standings, Cooper enjoyed a highly successful year. He won the Justin Boots Championships, the Reno Rodeo, the Tri-State Rodeo, and the all-around and co-champion in team roping at the 18th Annual Glen Rose RPCA Rodeo. Residing in Decatur, Texas, rodeo is all in the family for Cooper. His father is Roy “Super Looper” Cooper, a member of the ProRodeo Hall of Fame and eight-time world champion, and brothers Clint and Clif are both PRCA competitors in tie-down roping. Coincidentally, sister Shada is married to nine-time world champion Trevor Brazile.

You’ll also want to watch the four-legged competitors at this year’s event. Sutton Rodeo was awarded all three categories of Badlands Circuit Livestock of the Year. Animals include nine year old black stud horse Crystalyx and six year old bull Crystal Springs Peach. Eight year old bay stocking legged stud horse Chuckulator was named the Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association Saddle Bronc Horse of the Year for 2012. He also won Bareback and Saddle Bronc of the Badland Circuit Finals in 2011, the first horse to win both awards in the same year.

The 2013 Black Hills Stock Show & Rodeo® promises to showcase the same spirit of competition, hard work, and perseverance the event is known for. We look forward to the attendance of all competitors, and once again enjoying the company of friends from across the region. Don’t miss big time fun, and be sure to follow the event on Twitter at #BHStockShow.
