Rally for the Rush!

This weekend, the Rush will battle the Laredo Bucks in a showdown Friday and Saturday nights, at 7:05pm. And as we all know, sometimes our favorite sports team needs a bit of a nudge from all of us supportive fans in the stands. Ok, so let’s call it more than a nudge…let’s call it a full on RALLY. After a couple of rough losses, the Rush need all of their fans to come out in full force and support them this weekend. Having energetic, loud fans in the stands can be one of the most helpful remedies for a wavering team. So let’s make it happen!

Plus, students who have an “A” on a valid report card are eligible for a free ticket to the Friday or Saturday night’s game, with the purchase of a parental ticket! There’s never been a better reward for hitting the books. Grab a friend, your report card and your parent, and head to the Ice Arena Friday and Saturday nights.

Still need more incentive to come out and support our hard working team? The Rush will be giving away free Coach Ferris bobble head dolls to the first 1,500 fans that get to the game on Friday night. It’s the perfect souvenir to commemorate a season full of action-packed, edge of your seat entertainment.

Sure, the Rush have hit a rough patch, but that doesn’t mean we’ve reached the end. Let’s all rally together to show our team just have supportive we are. After all, we’ve been named the Best Fans in the CHL, right? And don’t forget, if you’re looking to entertain a crowd with an experience they’ll never forget, there are still Suites available for Friday night. Contact Priscilla at 394-4115! We can’t wait to see everyone at this weekend’s games, as the Rush do “Whatever It Takes” to come out on top!

And don’t forget about the Counts Car Show taking place this Friday through Sunday. Dedicated to their slogan of “Fun With Cars,” the event will showcase dozens of vehicles in every imaginable make, model, and year. Many members of the Counts Car Club are experienced with building a rod or machine from the ground up, and are able to offer advice or assistance to anyone beginning the hobby. It’s the perfect event to enjoy with your family, before you head to the Rush game!

‘Eventful’ is an Understatement!

It’s time to dust off our boots, hang up our hats, and take a moment to reflect on our biggest and best Black Hills Stock Show and Rodeo ever!  An all-time attendance record was set last week, with over 333,000 individuals visiting our facility and community. Our largest single day ever occurred on Saturday, February 4th, with over 65,000 attendees! Numbers like this are only possible because of the dedication of the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center staff, as well as the entire Rapid City community joining together to support the Black Hills Stock Show and Rodeo. For that we thank you all, and look forward to another great turnout in 2013!

A Date Night for Everyone!

With that said, our lineup of events is just beginning! As we all know, next Tuesday marks the most romantic date on the calendar, which means it’s time to plan ahead for that someone special. Instead of fighting the Valentine’s Day crowds, beat the rush by attending an event this weekend, or purchase your tickets ahead of time. Here is a rundown of all that’s happening; the perfect date night for any couple!

Broadway’s Young Frankenstein

When: Friday, February 10 – 7:30pm, Saturday, February 11 – 2:00pm & 7:30pm

The classic Mel Brooks movie is alive! You’ll have a monsterously good time at this spectacular production, winner of the 2008 Outer Critics Circle Award and the Broadway.com Audience Award for Best Musical!

Rush vs. Missouri

When: Friday, February 10 – 7:05pm

The Rush are back and ready to battle the Missouri Mavericks in this Friday night matchup. Grab your sweetie, a cold beverage, and cheer on everyone’s favorite hockey team while you enjoy one action-packed date! Plus, don’t forget that Friday’s game will be “Pink at the Rink” in support of the fight against cancer. Players will sport pink jerseys, which will be auctioned off after the game. Proceeds will go to the Regional Cancer Care Institute in Rapid City. 

Northern Plains Ultimate Outdoor Expo

When: Friday, February 10 – 12:00pm to 8:00pm, Saturday, February 11 – 9:00am to 8:00pm, Sunday, February 12 – 10:00am to 4:00pm

Treat him (or her!) to a day full of events geared to the outdoor explorer or recreational enthusiast. With over 100 vendors, the Expo will showcase a huge variety of products, as well as various seminars, activities for the kids, and even a brand new Ladies’ Lounge!

Snowstorm Music Tour

When: Tuesday, February 14 – 6:30pm

For those looking to celebrate on Valentine’s evening, join the crowd as the Snowstorm Music Tour heats up the chilly weather. With hip-hop and pop sensations T-Pain and Gym Class Heroes, the evening’s lineup will have you and your date swooning not only over each other, but to some of your favorite tunes.

River North Dance Chicago

When: Saturday, February 18 – 7:30pm

2012 Black Hills Stock Show & Rodeo Full Speed Ahead!

This year’s Black Hills Stock Show and Rodeo is in full swing and busy as ever. We’ve had a great time seeing old and new faces alike, and watching the talented skill of riders, artists, and craftsmen who have filled our building with that special energy that can only be felt during the Stock Show & Rodeo. 

With only a few days left, make sure that you don’t miss your chance to get in on all of the action. There are plenty of tickets available for all of the events, so bring the whole family for an afternoon or evening of quality entertainment!

Thursday, February 2nd

As always, the Trade Show, Petting Zoo, and Rodeo Zone will be bustling with activities throughout the day. Rushmore Hall’s Sale Ring will be busy with the Gelbvieh Show and Shorthorn Show at 8:00am and 9:30am, and the Red Angus Show at 11:00am. In the Barnett Arena at 10:00am will be the PRCA Timed Event Slack, and the PRCA Rodeo will be held in the Barnett Arena at 7:30pm. Unlike last weekend’s Xtreme Bulls event, this rodeo will feature a full lineup of rodeo events, offering the variety that many visitors enjoy. Looking for some lively entertainment and a cold beverage? Stop by the Cowboy Bar, where you’ll find friends, fun, and local favorite Crash Wagon on stage. PLUS, don’t miss your chance to meet the one and only Tuff Cooper, reigning world champion Tie Down Roper, and his brother, Clif Cooper. They’ll be signing autographs in the Rodeo Zone, Thursday only, from 2pm – 4pm.

Friday, February 3rd

Kicking off the morning will be the Limousin Show in Rushmore Hall’s Sale Ring at 8:00am. Timed Event Slack in the Barnett Arena as well as the Western Art Show Public Viewing in the Theatre Lobby will open at 10:00am. The afternoon brings a variety of seminars, such as Long Term Care in Room #205 at 1:00pm, and Estate Strategies in Room #205 at 3:00pm. Crash Wagon will once again be heating up the Cowboy Bar from 4pm to 8pm, along with another PRCA Rodeo in the Barnett Arena at 7:30pm. Plus, don’t miss everyone’s favorite mechanical bull in the Rodeo Zone!

Saturday, February 4th

The last day of the 2012 Black Hills Stock Show & Rodeo will be a busy one. With the week’s regular events still in full swing, such as the Trade Show, Petting Zoo, and Rodeo Zone, there will also be a variety of social hours held, along with a PRCA Rodeo held in the Barnett Arena at 1:30pm, and a final rodeo at 7:30pm. The Cowboy Bar will be open for business at 10:00am, with Crash Wagon taking the stage from 4pm to 8pm. Hubbard Feeds Supreme Row Judging will take place at 5:30pm in the Rushmore Hall Sale Ring, with the Parade of Champions taking place at 7:00pm in the Barnett Arena.

2012 Black Hills Stock Show & Rodeo

It’s that time of year yet again – time to dig out our cowboy hats, wranglers and boots. Yes, the 2012 Black Hills Stock Show & Rodeo is upon us! Visitors from across the Midwest will congregate at our facility to enjoy the entertainment, livestock, and food! For nine days straight, individuals of all types will find something to see and do at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center. To make life easy, we’ve broken down everyone’s favorite events happening right here…

Coors Light Cowboy Bar

In the mood for music, merriment, and ice cold beverages? The Coors Light Cowboy Bar is a crowd pleaser year after year, and 2012 promises to be no different. Opening at 10am each day, the Coors Light Cowboy Bar will feature a great lineup of entertainment. Catch the band Midnight Sun on Friday, January 27 and Saturday, January 28 from 3pm – 7pm, and on Tuesday, January 31st from 3pm – 7pm. Next up is Crash Wagon, playing February 2nd – 4th, 4pm – 8pm each day.

Rodeo Zone

Also opening at 10am every day is the Rodeo Zone, offering events that will entertain the entire family. Chili lovers will appreciate the Chili Cook Off on Sunday, January 29th beginning at noon. Previously held in the Barnett Arena, this year’s cook off will put chili chef’s skills to the test! Looking for some quality activities for the kids? No problem! The Rodeo Zone will also feature Kid’s Dummy Roping February 3rd & 4th at 5pm, with kids grouped ages 6 and under, 7 to 10, and 11 to 13. Autograph sessions will also take place at 4:30pm each day, (except Sunday and Wednesday) with clowns, contestants, and queens present to sign away! And don’t forget about the free drawings held at 6pm each day.

Arts

Artistic types will enjoy the Western Art Show viewing in the Theatre Lobby, and hunters of collector items won’t want to miss the BHSS Foundation Old West Collector’s Auction held on the Theatre stage.  Preview is Friday, 12pm – 8pm, with the auction taking place at 10am on Saturday.

Rushmore Hall & Barnett Arena

And don’t forget about Rushmore Hall, which will be bustling with the World’s Smallest Rodeo, January 28th at 10am, featuring kids competing in adorable events – you’ll want to have your camera ready! Also taking place in Rushmore Hall on Sunday, January 29th are sheep shearing demos at 10am and the national sheep shearing championship at 12pm. Winners will go on to compete in the world championship, held in Ireland! Rushmore Hall will also be holding all of the stock showing events, and don’t forget about the petting zoo. The Barnett Arena will showcase cowboys from across the country, competing in rodeo events of every type, from Xtreme Bulls to Ranch Rodeos…some of the most exciting displays of talent and tenacity you’ll see all year!

Each year the Black Hills Stock Show & Rodeo feature events that the whole family will enjoy. When wintertime boredom sets in, it’s the perfect cure for all of your entertainment cravings! The Exhilaration of Extreme Indoor Enduro!

This Saturday, January 21st marks the 8th annual Extreme Indoor Enduro, bringing Black Hills trail riding indoors in an event that will have you on the edge of your seat! Testing the skill and endurance of dirt bike and ATV riders, the terrain will include some grueling challenges. Watch as the riders maneuver a course of logs, rocks, trees, and other hazards like water, tires, railroad tracks, over/under bridge, and daring ramps. They’ll even be venturing into the upper bleachers, for some up close and bold action! With no two tracks the same, the riders’ abilities will truly be tested!
