We’ve all got them. Peculiar items that we keep tucked away in a storage closet, attic or garage. Maybe it’s a piece of heirloom jewelry passed down by your great-aunt. Maybe it’s an old doll, dusty portrait, or knickknack you picked up at your neighbor’s rummage sale. Whatever it is, you’ve probably wondered what it could be worth. Is it old junk, or your retirement come early?
This Saturday, July 14th, Antiques Roadshow will be making its way to the Civic Center to answer those burning questions. Part adventure, part history lesson, and part treasure-hunt, the nine-time Emmy Award-nominated show marks its 16th season in 2012. PBS’s highest rated series, Antiques Roadshow is seen by almost 10 million viewers each week. TV personality Mark L. Walberg hosts the legendary series, and specialists from the country’s leading auction houses and independent dealers offer free appraisals. With cameras ready to capture all of the tales, experts will reveal the truths about your treasures.
If you haven’t already received your ticket, you’ll have to sit tight until the Rapid City show airs on PBS, as you must have an advance ticket to attend the event. For our guests who will be in attendance, the Antiques Roadshow offers some helpful guidelines for the big day. Participants may only bring up to two items. Your collectibles must fit through a standard sized door, and you must be able to carry them through the event. Carts and dollies are not provided. Vehicles, stamps, paper currency, coins, bicycles, fossils, tools, glass fire extinguishers and explosives or hazardous materials cannot be appraised. Paintings will require a longer wait for appraisal. Please do not arrive more than 30 minutes before the entrance time on your ticket.
